Name of the Character you are applying for: MALCOM REYNOLDS
Captain Malcom Reynolds sat in the empty cockpit seat of Serenity, his ship and the nomadic home of many an outcast. But at the moment he wasn't in a mood anywhere near serene. He happened to be glaring at the emptyness of space beyond the large cockpit window. It was in the middle of the sleep cycle at the moment, so he pretty much had the ship to himself.
The reason he was glaring? One Doctor Simon Tam. If that boy kept messing up with his advances on Kaylee he was going to have to teach him a lesson. Every time Kaylee would forgive him and her hopes would get up, and every time the good Doctor would bring them crashing down again with one carelessly placed comment. So he was glowering at nothing since no one would let him even glower at Simon. Except Jayne, but Jayne didn't count in this. He heard footsteps on the deck behind him but didn't turn around, he knew who it was.
"I thought you'd be up here." Inara said as she came and stood next to him, staring into the starry void as if this were the reason she was here.
"Spit it out." He growled; not really in the mood for company, the Companion's refined presence being the last person he wanted to be around.
"I beg your pardon?" She questioned, turning to him with one dark brow raised.
"You know what I mean Inara. Go ahead and lecture me about how I'm jumping to conclusions, and acting like Kaylee's my sister or daughter or something. Go ahead, use your wiles." Mal replied acidly.
"I came up here to ask what was bothering you. And I do not use wiles. But now that you've mentioned it, yes. You need to go a little easier on the kid, he has no idea what he's doing in this. But he has a good heart and a steady personality. Something that would do Kaylee good." Inara snapped back, her smooth voice rising.
"Oh, is that all? Let me guess. Next your going to ask for the ship!" Mal yelled back.
"Malcom Reynolds you're insufferable. You take offense at every turn and yet get mad at me when I become offended by your derogatory terming of my work." Inara replied just as strongly, though a good deal quieter.
"What? It's whoring." Mal said with a glower. Inara threw up her hands and stalked out of the cockpit, leaving the captain to stew.
Very nice, be sure to keep up the length. Remember, minumum is 200 words.
Remember that Mal likes it when Simon messes up badly (Jaynestown, the face he makes after "I wouldn't...not with Kaylee," line.) And it could be true that he wants Simon out of the picture (For Kaylee, at least.) Other than that, you made him very true to his character.

Name of the Character you are applying for: Jayne Cobb
It's been a late afternoon, and, having nothing more exciting to do, Jayne's been polishing one of his knives in his room. It's been the very knife he used to kill Stitch back on Canton, the best he had so far, and the one that saved his life more than once. The life of a mercenary has not been a safe one, and Jayne knew better than neglecting his weapons.
"ZOE!" - he heard the loud voice coming from above. It might have belonged to the Captain, or Wash... or both, more seemingly. Unfortunately, it smelled like trouble. The problems on Serenity were usually solved by Mal or Zoe, but it wasn't Jayne's style to stay out of it. What if they were about to be intercepted by the Alliance... Well, he could luckily turn in the idiotic doctor and his psychopatic sister, then. What if they had the Reavers on their tails, on the other hand?
A knife still in his hand, Jayne stormed out of his room. He artistically prevented himself from bumping into Kaylee running down the corridor, her face looking rather disturbed. "I did warn them," - she exclaimed as she narrowly missed the man. "Where are they?" - Jayne asked Kaylee wondering what she warned them about. "What did you warn them about?"
"Not you too," - Kaylee threw a glance at the hunting knife in Jayne's hand and replied with an unnaturally sad expression before storming in the direction of the engine room, - "The cockpit."
Jayne moved in the direction of Wash's domain, determined as hell to find out what was going on. It was virtually impossible to make Kaylee sad... but pretty easy to make her panic, on the other hand. So was she rather panicking than being sad?
Before Jayne reached the cockpit, he saw Mal storming in his direction, angry as hell. "Tsway-niou. Reavers?," - Jayne suggested, as the Captain stopped by him, still fuming. The last interaction with the crazy folk has been less than pleasant, and Jayne was surely hoping he weren't to face any bloody Reavers anytime soon.
"It's just Wash..." - Mal started, but shake of the ship prevented him from going on. The ship seemed to change its course. "It's fine. Go back to your duties," - Mal stormed back into the cockpit. "The funny guy?!" Jayne paused, puzzled, and watched Mal move away. Duties? His main duties lay off the ship on the grounds, didn't they? Once they landed, he did have stuff to do, but until then, unless Serenity picked up some really troublesome passangers, Jayne was up to rest, not the duties. "Chur ni-duh!" - Jayne commented loudly just before the door closed behind Mal's back.
With a bit of an envy, he looked at Wash and Zoe pass him by towards the living quarters a minute later. "What are you looking at?" - he wondered angrily, - "Chur ni-duh," - Jayne repeated before moving back to his room.
